Sometimes the step forward is going back it's roots, simple yet balanced gameplay.
Not trying to imply that they should exactly copy COD4/WAW but really take some of the elements of what made COD4 and WAW so addictive and less frustrating with the recent COD titles.
i.e. Less killstreak spam, simple killstreaks, back to "gun on gun" action

Yeah, I'm hoping that COD Ghosts isn't what MW3 & BO2 has become, a barrage of never-ending killstreak spam but I guess we'll find out soon on what IW have been doing with COD Ghosts multiplayer.
